Preliminary Call for Papers
INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON MATHEMATICAL MORPHOLOGY
and its Applications to Image and Signal Processing VI
April 3-5, 2002, Sydney, NSW, Australia
This symposium is the sixth in a series of international workshops
devoted to the area of mathematical morphology and its applications in
image and signal processing. The scientific program will include
invited talks and contributed papers. The size of the workshop will be
limited in order to enable interaction between the participants.
While morphological image/signal processing remains the core topic for
ISMM2002, presentations on related areas will be welcome. Related
topics of specific interest include, but are not limited to:
* PDE methods
* Discrete geometry for image analysis
* Probabilistic methods
* 3D image analysis
* Scale space
SUBMISSION PROCEDURES:
---------------------
Prospective authors are invited to submit five copies of a full paper
devoted to any topic in the area of mathematical morphology to the
following address:

Alternatively, email submissions will also be accepted. Manuscripts
should be in PostScript or PDF format, possibly compressed (gzip
preferred), and emailed to the following address:
ismm2002@cmis.CSIRO.AU
Manuscripts should include a separate title page, containing the names
and the addresses of the authors (including e-mail address, phone and
fax number), an abstract of up to 200 words, and keywords.
Acceptance of papers is based on appropriateness of the topic and on
quality, novelty, and clarity of exposition. Each paper will be
reviewed by at least two members of the Program Committee using a
blind procedure, and their reviews will be returned to the author.
Accepted papers will appear in the proceedings volume published by
Kluwer in their Computational Imaging and Vision series. This volume
will be available at the beginning of the workshop. The final paper
has to be prepared using the LaTeX typesetting system using the style
file provided by the organizers (see conference web site), and should
be limited to 8 pages including artwork and references.

2. Course on Mathematical Morphology (Amsterdam)

In Februari 2002 the third edition of the ASCI-a11 Mathematical
Morphology course will be held. This course provides an comprehensive
introduction to mathematical morphology. Principles, algorithms and
applications will be covered in a 5 day course to be held at the
University of Amsterdam from February 4 until February 8 in 2002.
The course is open to all ASCI members and others (from an academic as
well as an industrial setting) interested in mathematical morphology
both from a theoretical as well as practical point of view. For ASCI
members the course is free, for others there is a (small) fee.
Lecturers at the course will be Lucas van Vliet (Delft University) ,
Henk Heijmans (CWI) and Rein van den Boomgaard (UvA). This ensemble of
speakers will provide a mix of educational, theoretical, thought
provoking and hopefully inspiring lectures.
Besides the lectures, several hours worth of practical sessions will
be organized. Most lectures will take place in the morning and most
practical work will be done in the afternoons.

AIMS
Recently, 3D images are becoming widely used in a number of successful
applications, including machine vision, robot vision, visualization,
and virtual reality, to mention a few. This is mainly due to the
increasing performances of the technology underlying 3D sensor systems
that, coupled with their decreasing costs, are contributing to a wider
diffusion of such devices in both industrial and academic
environments. In fact, the vitality of this research is witnessed by
the increasing number of papers being presented at the major
international conferences in many disparate fields (e.g., SMC, CVPR,
ICCV, ICPR, ICIP). Moreover, recent advances of computing
capabilities has extended the scope of 3D image analysis and modeling
techniques, which are becoming as almost largely diffused as
traditional image processing and analysis methods and potentially more
powerful. This trend is also contributing to disclose new possible
applications, especially important in the context of the Information
Technology society.
TOPICS
In this special issue, we call for papers reflecting recent research
on the analysis and processing of 3D images and on the application of
these techniques to the solution of real-world problems. Prospective
papers should present either a novel methodological approaches or the
application of existing techniques to new and relevant problems.
Areas of interest are targeted on the use of 3D data and include, but
are not limited to:
Basic theory and techniques:
- Registration and fusion of 3D images
- Recovery of 3D shapes
- 3D scene/object modeling and rendering
- Human modeling
- Simplification of large models

SCOPE AND AIMS
RECPAD 2002 is the 12th edition of the Portuguese Conference on
Pattern Recognition of APRP - The Portuguese Association for Pattern
Recognition. RECPAD 2002 continues a cycle of conferences organized
every two years with a broad spectrum, having specialised workshops in
intermediate years. A special poster session for young scientists will
be organized. Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to
submit their work. The topics to be addressed include, but are not
restricted to:

full contact details of the corresponding author. All submissions
will be peer reviewed for originality, technical content and relevance
to the theme of this conference. The full papers will be published in
the Conference Proceedings and presented either as an oral or poster
presentation. Submissions should be sent by e-mail to
recpad2002@ieeta.pt in PDF or Postscript format.
Short papers
